We admit it - part of the fun of fashion week is checking out the front row to see which stylish A-listers have put in an appearance and where. But Marc Jacobs, who has been steadily reducing the number of celebrity guests at his shows over the past few seasons, has decided to forego them altogether at this season's New York Fashion Week.
The designer has in the past courted everyone from Victoria Beckham to Perez Hilton at his shows, but has decided it's time to move on. He revealed to Page Six, 'I'm not into the celebrity thing . . . like we used to. That's boring'.
Last year Lady Gaga, who was invited because she was performing at the after-party, famously missed his show altogether because she arrived late. And if you imagined that backstage was all air-kisses and love-ins between the celebrities and designers is apparently mistaken. The only star who did appear at Jacob's show back in September was Madonna, and Jacobs says, 'She came backstage, and I was like, 'What do you do with her now?' Because it's not like she was invited.' We can just imagine the awkwardness.
So could this be the beginning of a brand new trend? With New York Fashion Week kicking off today we'll soon find out - keep your eyes on our catwalk channel to see which stars we spot.More
