Creative Director of the high street brand spoke to ELLEuk.com about the easy luxe collection he and his team have created for a/w 09 and the new design philosophy he's introduced at head office.
Previously individual countries all had individual design teams, but Robinson has now united his talent, providing one seamless global collection that provides Gap customers everywhere with all the wealth of the Gap design team's 'globe trotting experience.'
Drawing on influences from Europe, (that according to Robinson 'help elevate classic American looks') Tokyo and New York, the collection reflects next winter's 'Easy Luxury' trend. Cue oversize Navaho sweaters; a butter soft, moss green leather jacket; the perfect skinny jeans ('we have worked really hard to redefine these' robinson said) plus awe-inspiring, block-heeled, sheepskin and suede boots (designed by Pierre Hardy) that had more than one editor asking how they could get their hands on them right now.
Robinson's other goal at Gap is to make sure his clothes look much more expensive than they really are. Job done Mr Robinson. We'll all be rushing to Gap come August.
