Mary-Kate Olsen's new look

Gone is the unwashed hair and chipped nail polish and, in its place, beautifully tousled curls, bright red lips and slightly smoky eyes. We suspect she's been taking her style cues from eighties Madonna and Courtney Love. Overall a much more grown-up and polished - but not too groomed - look from the twin that we're used to.

The actress and designer was out in New York at the Metropolitan Opera's 125th Anniversary Gala, sponsored by Yves Saint Laurent, and she wasn't the only star to turn out for the event. Claudia Schiffer, Claire Danes, Becki Newton, Diane Kruger and this season's most-spotted fashion groupie Kanye West all joined designer Stefano Pilati ( who surely deserves a holiday having presented the latest YSL collection in Paris last week) for a spot of serious culture.
