Paris latest: Balmain a/w09

At the time, last September, Decarnin was pretty much the only designer embracing this sexy rock look and can take sole credit for turning Balmain into one of the few brands that could tempt us to bash the credit card this spring. His winning formula lies in the mix of sexy rock spirit with a directional sharp silhouette - and for a/w09 Decarnin clearly saw little point in changing this fashion blend.

Continuing the disco rock theme he now owns - silver buckled boots, mini quilted leather dresses, biker skirts, swarovski studded harem trousers, sequined tiger print tees and trademark shoulder tux jackets all had his unmistakable polished rock and roll stamp. There were plenty of sell-out padded shoulder jackets – the tailored tux styles are new for winter - crystals and sequins on everything, and super versatile denim: black skinny cropped jeans were the foundation for many ensemble.(Click here to see it)

It would be unfair to berate Decarnin for his reluctance to move on - like many designers trying to get through troubled times – he has played to his strengths, not taken risks and produced a great collection for autumn 09. But he also now holds the title for most copied designer and his new fans who love the out-of-reach appeal of Balmain and who want to snap up the jacket no one else has – may move on to a new designer next season unless we see something new for 2010.
