Donatella Versace has long been a fan of British designer Christopher Kane's work, which made him the natural choice when searching for a designer to help relaunch the Versace diffusion label, Versus, opened by her late brother Gianni in the eighties.
For autumn/ winter 2009 Kane has designed a capsule collection of accessories for Versus, where Donatella is now Creative Director. Inspired by Kane's own iconic designs with Swarovski crystals as well as the geometric design of Labyrinths and Mochettones - the clips used by alpine climbers.
The result is what you might expect, edgy, shiny, glam for the noughties. Strappy gladiator sandals encrusted in Swarovski gems and a boxy calf leather bag that wouldn't look out of place on the back of a motor bike.
'Christopher is a highly creative young designer and his work impressed me from the very beginning. His Rockn Roll style is very powerful, glamorous and sensual, perfectly in tune with the mood of Versus, which was always intended for young people who want clothes that project a personal style that is constantly evolving' said Donatella Versace in Milan yesterday.
