Pringle's autumn wardrobe for working girls

The first celebrity sighting of Milan fashion week turned out to be at low key, British heritage brand Pringle - where Pixie Geldof (who stars in their latest campaign) sat front and centre yesterday wearing the house's latest designs (a grey cable knit cardigan coat with ankle boots).

On the catwalk, aside from always stunning trademark knitwear, Pringle's latest collection was dominated by chic urban tailoring and the ubiquitous top heavy, wide shouldered silhouette that is inspired by eighties power dressing.

When power dressing first appeared over 20 years ago - it was because women wanted a wardrobe that matched their new status in the work place, it reflected that they were now defining themselves - like men - by their careers. There's obviously little need to make a sartorial stand these days - but Pringle's new collection should provide working girls like us with lot of cool and covetable pieces for autumn 09.

Knits decorated with fur trims at the shoulder - to emphasise the top heavy silhouette - fluid cardigans with all important shoulder pads, mannish blazers and peg leg trousers in wool or metallic shantung silk, plus stiff looped knit skirts all made it straight onto our fashion scroll.

A softer side was introduced towards the end of the show in the orange and bright raspberry chenille knit dresses and tops, and the touchy-feely feathered mini skirts. We're not sure what Pixie put on her shopping list, but we're pretty sure she'll be mixing the wool d/b, blouson fur collared jackets and the mannish blazers into her punk chic look next season.
