Milan reviews – Gucci revisits the excess of the eighties

Back in London the eighties revival largely meant body con, utility, grunge, rave and punk – in Milan where glamour is always on the agenda – the eighties translates as urban chic, deluxe tailored power dressing and super glam and sparkling eveningwear.

Star pieces at Gucci were tapered cropped trousers – the peg leg cut that’s going nowhere next season – double breasted sleeveless blazers, one shouldered dresses, soft striped leather blouson biker jackets and leather second skin trousers. There was also plenty of Gucci’s bread and butter crystal encrusted dresses, skinny modish trouser suits and cropped fur bombers. Hair was gelled and slicked back and coloured, airbrush effect blusher and eye shadow was unmistakably eighties.

Milan, like London and New York, is mostly definitely addicted to the eighties for autumn 09 – so dig out some shoulderpads and get used to the idea of hair gel now.
