Latest London reviews: Kinder’s London 'Mash-up'

Kinder is fast becoming known for his chic punk style, which is evolving from his love of modern mix-and-match and his penchant for spinning a collection from a different theme each season (his first ever eponymous presentation in Paris a few years ago was inspired by both Coco Chanel and Sid Vicious).

His mix for a/w09 meant taking costume references from every decade from the 20s to the 90s and combining them to create a new silhouette. Pieces were layered in what he called a ‘visual mash up: because it’s like the way you later beats to create music’ he told us after the show.

Wearable, desirable fashion needs an element of mix these days. The blending of casual and polished, uptown meets downtown, sexy but interesting, appeals to modern women as it’s a look that allows us to ignore demographics and traditional roles. What grown woman doesn’t want to look both serious and sexy, sophisticated yet cutting edge. Kinder like many modern designers is wisely tapping into this growing market - and his grown up front row fans that included Jasmine Guinness and Saffron Aldridge love him already.

Winning pieces were the tailored pants and blazers - borrowed form the boys and executed brilliantly - the beautiful, burnt silk floral prints, wool tail coats, navy pea coats with military details, all layered with delicate, sheer jet beaded tops and chiffon.
