London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2009 kicks off today

London Fashion week kicks off today, it's the 25th anniversary of London's bi- annual style event - and what a week it's set to be.

Harold Tillman, Erin O'Connor and the rest of the British Fashion Council got the ball rolling this week with a press call (pictured) announcing LFW's silver anniversary as well as the 25th birthday of the British Fashion Council. And today sees some of London's brightest fashion talents showcasing their collections in The Central Saint Martins show tonight. Will we spot the next Alexander McQueen or Stella McCartney amongst the students?

Clements Ribeiro are also back in town. After a spell in Paris designing for Cacharel, the duo relaunched their eponymous label last year, and have chosen London as the place to show it for autumn/ winter 2009.

This week London will be also be playing hard, the list of after show events and celebratory soireees in the city far out-party what New York had to offer.

In Manhattan there were fewer parties and events than ever before. Not so here, not only have we been RSVP-ing for multiple parties each night there will also be some A-list style watchers in town, including Chloe Sevigny who is arriving in London today to showcase her new collection for Manhattan store Opening Ceremony, and Erin Wasson who will be launching her new label at Selfridges next week.

It's set to be one of the busiest LFW's ever - not least as we're cramming it all in to four days this season.
