The international collections kick off: what you need to know now

As well as our perennial favourites (the Lanvin show, breakfast at Cafe Flore and endless underground East End parties in London) there's also a whole rosta of new special events lined up for the first time this February. Designers may be cutting back as we enter a time of austerity, but there's still plenty to look forward to in the fashion schedule. Here's a heads up on the hip happenings to look out for...

We’ll also have our eye on the jewellery designs at American designer Elise Overland’s show tomorrow. She was so inspired by the Metropolitan museum’s current exhibit of Alexander Calder’s iconic jewellery that the museum and Alexander’s grandson have agreed she can borrow the pieces not on display for her show. With some of these pieces being worth over and above half a million dollars - we wonder what security will be like at that show.

As many designers scale back the size of their venues, talk is, the C-listers are no longer welcome at the New York shows. So as well as Michelle O, we're hoping to see some bona fide A-lister's in Manhattan this week, especially as the Oscar's will be depriving London of many front rowers come Sunday 22nd. Nicole Fahri has already told her husband, writer David Hare, that she won't be able to hold his hand at the star studded awards ceremony as he waits to see if his film The Reader (starring Kate Winslet) has won one of the coveted gold statuettes.
