Target, the bargain US store, a cross between Asda and Woolworths here in the U.K., has tapped British designer Alexander McQueen as the first collaborator for a new project entitled Designer Collaborations. The new collection will be called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target, and will stem from McQueen's own diffusion line McQ.
Target has become iconic both in the US and across the pond here in the UK for it's Go International ranges - designer collaborations with some of fashion's hottest names, including Proenza Schouler, Luella and Jonathan Saunders. These collections have been instant hits, selling out in days.
The new initiative will run parallel to Go International but is unique and different. Each collection will be very limited edition and every designer chosen (there are many more big names to come) will chose a muse or collaborative partner to inspire the entire collection.
For his first foray in to affordable fashion McQueen has chosen Leila Moss, the lead singer of Brit band The Duke Spirit as his muse. The band are influenced by both the eighties and the nineties with punk and rock influences. Cue hip Brit rock chick touches to what promises to be an pretty-edgy collection.
Last month Anya Hindmarch's collaboration with Target came to the UK. The designer's website held a sale of her Go collection - and the entire range sold out to British buyers in minutes (well who wouldn't want to snag an Anya bag for under £100!) Here's hoping McQueen's designs for Target make it across the pond too.
