There are seasons when this means that her straightforward girl-friendliness seems less than exciting - nothing to do with the clothes, just that other designers seem to be shouting louder.
But in the current climate, the shows which are standing out this season are the ones that summon an easy, effortless elegance. And Stella McCartney is master of this. Despite the Jake and Dinos Chapman backdrop, despite the second row presence of Sasha Baron Cohen (click here to read all about it), there was nothing here but clothes.
Desirable, wearable clothes. Slouchy oversized tailoring, of course: big shouldered boyfriend jackets, sleeves pushed up, over little strapless dresses or cropped trousers, all in shades of blush pink and white. Jumpsuits, bodysuits, bomber jackets, knits: sexy and simple, all present and correct. No wonder that her company reported that profits increased six-fold last year.
