The stock markets may be set for their most historic tumble in living memory, but fashions designers big and small - are seeking solace in the Power Decade where everything and everyone from Siouxie Sioux and the LBD, to cropped tops and Bananarama are their latest source of inspiration.
The first big clue came via the jumpsuit. At New York Fashion Week it was everywhere. In London the theme continued as sports/utility wear and Bananarama style headscarves and bows. And in Milan the strong shouldered (yes shoulder pads) waisted silhouette and the paper bag waist trouser were still going strong. Even wet look hair last seen in a Robert Palmer video circa 1986 is back, and Victoria Beckham has already been stepping out with her newly cropped hair gelled and slicked to perfection, eighties style.
