Peter Som to stay on at Bill Blass, but for how long?

On Friday we reported that Peter Som was rumoured to have handed in his notice at Bill Blass just a year after taking the helm at the iconic American label.

Over the weekend various reports have emerged from New York, suggesting that Som may not have quit just yet, but his future at the label will be short.

It seems now that Som (pictured here with Maggie Gyllenhaal) will continue designing his spring/summer 09 collection, which will be presented to editors at the next New York Fashion week in September - as a presentation, not a runway show - but that after that he will leave his position.

NexCen who own Bill Blass are said to be looking for a buyer for the label - assuring potential owners that with the right direction Bill Blass could become 'the American Gucci'.

Sadly if they do not the label will not show at all for autumn/ winter 09, and NexCen may be forced to close the ready-to-wear label completely.
