Ebay was ordered to pay LVMH, the luxury brand that owns Louis Vuitton amongst others labels, a whopping 19 million euros in compensation for allowing counterfeit products be sold on the site as the the genuine article.
The judge stated that Ebay had allowed 'grave errors' to occur and also awarded other luxury brands pay outs: Christian Dior will receive over 17 million euros and Parfums Christian Dior, Parfums Kenzo, Guerlain and Parfums Givenchy, around 3 million euros - in the hope the company would now take greater steps to prevent fakes being sold on the site.
Good news for Ebay fans, this ruling should now reassure us that we really are getting a genuine bargain.
