Commes Des Garcons and Louis Vuitton join forces in Japan
According to US newspaper The International Herald Tribune, an existing Commes store will be re-designed to house the project, which will open in September and run for three months. Dedicated fashion fans will be itching to get their hands on one of six exclusive bags that will be designed by Rei Kawakubo using the Louis Vuitton monogram. Rumour has it they will be "party bags", that "hark back to the styles of 30 years when Vuitton made only bags and leather goods", collector's pieces in the making if ever we saw one.
The collaboration marks thirty years since Louis Vuitton opened it's first Japanese store and is causing something of a stir amongst Commes des Garcons purists. Rei Kawakubo is seen as something of a fashion maverick, defiantly independent and creative, and and her pairing with one of the more corporate luxury brands has come as a surprise - the results are hotly anticipated.
