The auction which was predicted to raise between £40,000 and £60,000 exceeded all expectations when over 150, 000 people visited the online auction site, and 1,000 placed bids for a slice of Daphne's wardrobe on eBay.
The sale, in aid of Womankind Worldwide - a charity that aims to help women in third world countries lift their families out of poverty - was one of the most successful of it's kind ever, with a red John Galliano felt hat from the autumn/winter 02 collection selling for over $7,000 - breaking all world records for hats at auction.
Of the auction's success Guinness told the U.S press, 'The auction was a cathartic experience, In a world where consumerism is often prominent, it was good to try to give something back and to see my old wardrobe recycled. The clothes will go to people who will continue to enjoy them and I am really delighted that I have been able to do something practical to help women in different parts of the world.'
