His latest venture is his most successful yet however, and is one which also manages to give something back
Speaking to Blake this morning we asked him what's so special about Toms? He explained that for every pair of Toms sold, his L.A. based company donates a new pair of shoes to a child living in poverty who does not have shoes. So far he's made drops in South Africa and Argentina - where he was accompanied by his girlfriend - Lost star Maggie Grace - and the next stop on his mission is Ethiopia. "We are just about building a better tomorrow for everyone" says Blake, whose company ethos stems from a quote by Gandhi, "be the change you wish to be".
He's even named a pair of shoes after the great man, a black canvas plimsoll emblazoned with that quote in white letters. Maggie Grace was wearing a pair at this morning's breakfast. "It just happened to be my favourite quote, which was a great coincidence" she told ELLE.
The spring/summer collection is a relaxed range of checked and neutral coloured deck shoe -come- espadrille hybrids, with suede lined insoles. A little bit Dries Van Noten, a lot Duran Duran circa 1985! And as we all know the eighties were all over the catwalks at fashion week. At just £25 pounds a pair, they are also the perfect summer holiday shoe.
"They are great for the beach and for travelling" says Blake who's shoes have been a smash hit in L.A. "Everyone from high school and college kids to L.A hipsters are buying them" he told us. "Even Sienna Miller has a pair that she bought in American Rag in L.A - she found them herself" Blake revealed. Sienna, along with Maggie (natch) and Scarlett Johansson are all leading the charge when it comes to the celebrity following that is building for Toms unique, understated, label free, brand of quiet cool.
In the future Blake plans to expand the line with new fabrics, colours and textures such as leather, suede and corduroy and there are going to be some hot bright Toms relea More
