It's the season for British heritage labels, Biba opened London fashion week, Jaeger London had it's first catwalk show and yesterday Ossie Clarke was back. Gur showed a very Ossie collection, perhaps a little too Ossie, as many felt he stayed too loyal to the Clark archive to be thoroughly modern and relevant today. Certainly pieces were elegant and cut beautifully but too many seemed like remakes of 1970s classics, inparticular a ruffled collar chiffon print blouse that would not look out of place in a vintage collection of Celia Birtwell prints and Clark designs.
The much hyped presentation was one of the hottest tickets at London this week, but two people not at the show were Ossie's sons, who confirmed yesterday that they intend to sue the new owner of Ossie Clark, Mark Worth, and "reclaim their father's name to prevent its continued and unauthorised exploitation." We'll be watching to see how that case unfolds.
