Anyone who is anyone was invited, from Chanel's favourite models past and present - Jade Parfitt, Lily Cole, Alice Dellal, Natalia Vodianova, Yasmin Le Bon and Claudia Schiffer (pictured), who told us that when all else fails wearing a little bit of Chanel can make you feel "so great", to Chanel's most a-list friends including Thandie Newton and Lily Allen and even a royal in the shape of Charlotte of Monaco.
The fashion pack filled a candlelit room, where hundreds of black chairs each crowned with Chanel's iconic gold interlocking C's were arranged in intimate clusters to face the catwalk, upon which Aygness Deyn, Daisy Lowe and the rest of Mr Largerfeld's model army paraded the latest Chanel collection. And the music? Pete's ex Irina and her musical collaborator, Sean Lennon saw to that. (Watch the new John and Yoko play now in the second half of our Chanel video)
It was a collection that everybody decided was 'very Karl', made up of floor skimming full lenth skirts in wool and leather, ruffles, chiffon and Chanel's signature tweed's, reworked with some very modern twists including huge hood like snoods and frayed edges. The hair and make up was very Bridget Bardot and handbags were minute - encrusted with crystals or dripping in chrome chains. A clue to what we might see in Paris come February for autumn winter 08? Mr Largerfeld remained tight lipped on that. We will have to wait and see...
