Held in a warehouse space with steel staircases and neon lighting, live art installations by British artist Martin Creed were shown, dramatic orchestral music played and there was catwalk on which to view Calvin Klein's spring 08 collection. Plus a black, not red carpet, was laid out for arriving stars including Mary Kate Olsen, Alice Dellal and Bianca Jagger.
However this was not a party in New York, or even L.A but right here in blightly, on a foggy Monday night in London's Marylebone. The event was to celebrate art and to highlight Calvin Klein's collaborations with artists around the world.Yesterday it was the turn of conceptual artist Martin Creed and his human sculptures (some very attractive models in Calvin Klein!) "Besides being a briliant artist, what Martin does is so close to what we do" revealed Francisco Costa, Creative Director of Calvin Collection, on the black carpet. " He extracts the essence of a place, and so do we. It's about reduction and minimalism, as are we", he told us. And the host for the event, Oscar nominee and a good friend of Francisco, Naomi Watts agreed. "Francisco's clothes are so sleek and elegant, I'm a big fan", she told us. But just how is she back in the super sleek and slim designs just 3 months after giving birth to her first baby, son Alexander? "Good underwear!" is the secret according to Naomi, who wore a form fitting black shift, accessorised with wrists full of chunky gold bracelets and cuffs, strappy black courts and a slick of beetroot lipstick. Very ladylike, very chic and very Calvin Klein!
