Paris Fashion Week: Chanel, McQueen and Rykiel's fairies.

It was a day of highs and lows in Paris yesterday as Sonia Rykiel sent shoeless angels dancing down the catwalk, clad in fairy-like chiffon gowns while Alexander McQueen paid tribute to his friend Isabella Blow, who sadly killed herself earlier this year.

And then of course there was Chanel. There the clothes were gorgeous, a covertable collection of chic monochrome looks, injected with a good dose of fun in the shape of red white and blue stars and stripes, but just as remarkable was the front row. Mr Largerfeld managed to draw the biggest front row crowd all week, in the shape of Claudia Schiffer, Lily Allen, Kirsten Dunst, Victoria Beckham, Dita Von Tesses, Kanye West, Courtney Love and Marianne Faithful. Bravo Karl.

McQueen's collection had all the hallmarks of what he does best, sculptural tailoring in Prince of Wales check, moulded sillhouettes and romantic gowns. There was a prevalilling bird theme, which is not only very McQueen but also a tribute to Issy, and he worked with Philip Treacy to create bird hats that we're sure Issy would have snapped up. It was also a very modern collection of wearable pieces, including a chic belted black dress we defy any woman not to want come spring.
