Nicola Formichetti, former stylist for Lady Gaga and ex-Creative Director of Mugler, has been Artistic Director of Diesel since April this year and has set about putting his stamp on the brand. His first full collection will be unveiled on a Milan catwalk come March but, in the meantime, hes transformed the brands ad campaigns with his #DieselReboot project (read all about it in the December issue of ELLE, on sale now) and today pieces from his #DieselTribute collection launch in store.
#DieselTribute is a capsule collection of two halves, denim and leather and we can exclusively bring you a first look at three of the pieces from the denim collection. There are Western shirts, denim jackets, digitally printed T-shirts and, of course, jeans to choose from and each piece has been put together by hand in Italy before being covered in patches that have all been drawn from past Diesel colletions. As for the campaign, it's been shot by Nick Knight and, in a digital move typical of both Formichetti and Knight, was photographed entirely on iPhones.
Heres what Nicola has to say about the collection:
Are there any particular pieces from the archives that inspired you?
It was a mixture of archive pieces, old patches and studs and old denim pieces. I patchworked all the history into one capsule collection.
What does Diesel mean to you?
Alternative life, alternative to luxury
What have you brought to the label?
I feel like what Renzo Rosso, the founder of Diesel, did in the last 35 years is so incredible. I'm here to bring the next 35 years of more incredible things with him!
What can we look forward to i
