Last night, as part of the Frieze Art Fair celebrations currently taking over London, Dover Street Market hosted an open house event featuring installations by jewellery designer Eugenie Niarchos, footwear brand Purified and DSM founder, Rei Kawakubo.
Giambattista Valli attended the event to sign copies of his new book that offers a unique insight into his practical and conceptual processes.
ELLE spoke to Valli about the experience of putting the book together:
How did you feel looking back on your career and deciding what work to include?
Super critical! I dont feel that emotional about the past, Im not very nostalgic. But Im extremely critical so it wasn't difficult to pick the pictures to put inside the book. That said, it was an extremely interesting process for me because I had never had the right moment to just stop and look back, I was always looking forward to the next thing.
Diane Kruger contributed to the book
Yes. The book is structured that there is no beginning and end. Each section is written by a different contributor who is part of the story. Diane is the one writing about my sketches. We have been friends for such a long time. When she asks me to dress her I always send sketches and she gives me feedback on which ones she likes. She is great at interpreting my sketches, so I wanted her to and explain them in the book.More
