Tucked away on Lambs Conduit Street in Bloomsbury, just a little off the beaten track, is a store that you really need to search out. Its the womens outpost of Folk, the brands only store dedicated to its fledgling womens line. And its our new favourite place, one of those shops that you think youd quite like to live in.
Slotted alongside Folks spring collection are pieces from like-minded labels Acne, Tsumori Chisato, Studio Nicholson and more. But its the own-brand pieces that really have us hooked; the masculine shirts with colourful printed shapes across the back; the simply shaped tunic tops with subtle tape detailing;a hot pink silk dress with a slightly boho drawstring waist; tailored trousers with multicoloured bands. And then theres the footwear...
Long a favourite with those in the know, Folk have been quietly offering up menswear and womens shoes for over ten years. Then, last autumn, they finally granted our collective wishes and introduced a full womens collection. And with their spring offering, theyve really hit their stride.
Winter was almost like a capsule collection, a little bit tentative, just giving some plainer pieces and a couple of bits that were more exciting, but we were just putting feelers out really, Folks head designer, Elbe Lealman tells us. And then with spring/summer I felt like I got a lot of confidence to move forward with it and really give it a lot more detail, really concentrate on the fabrics, have a lot more fun and mix it up a lot more. Its a more complex and sophisticated collection rather than something thats just basic items. More
