Speaking to the BBC after the ceremony the designer said, I'm very, very humbled and it's just a huge honour to be here. I've been given some amazing opportunities - to work for someone as amazing as Lee [McQueen] and then having the honour of doing the wedding dress.
It was her role in the royal wedding that brought Burton to world attention the dress was even nominationed for Design of the Year 2012, though it was eventually beaten by the Olympic Torch.
Asked if she would also be designing for the Duchess of Cambridge's forthcoming child, Burton said, I hope I will be.'
