Shes the American designer whos well known for her fun, pretty punk stylings and colourful collections. Now Anna Sui has teamed up with Italian mega brand Coach to work a little of her magic on their classic duffle bag.
The finished products go to show what an astute pairing it was its not hard to imagine the cute customized bags flying off the shelves.
ELLE caught up with the designer to talk about the collaboration and, more importantly, her fancy dress costume of choice . . .
Tell us a bit what attracted you to working with Coach - did you have any restrictions on what you could do with the concept?
I had the great privilege to collaborate with Coach on bags used in my fashion show. My main inspiration was to put an Anna Sui spin on their seminal duffle design. I was thrilled to be able to work with their high-quality leathers and legendary workmanship. Their bags are crafted in beautiful leather that just get better as they age. Ive always been a fan of Coach bags; and when they approached me to collaborate on this project, I jumped at the chance!
Are you pleased with the finished bags? Which is your favourite?
I adore the wonderful Art Nouveau dragonfly appliqués (topstitched in green thread hovering above cat tails). There are dangling smaller dragonfly and lily pad bag charms, and a vintage Anna Sui floral print lining.
What are you own handbag essentials you have to have with you everywhere?
The true-red lipstick (No.400) from my own line, my big leather rose keychain and cellphone.
