Emmys 2012: red carpet glamour at the awards

So the predicted British invasion of the US the 64th annual Emmy Awards didn't materialise – only Dame Maggie Smith and Damian Lewis took home prizes – but there was plenty for fashion fans to cheer for on the red carpet.

The stand-out trend was full-on colour, with many stars opting for a block colour gown in dazzling shade; Julianne Moore in daffodil yellow Dior Couture; Claire Danes in a draped chartreuse column by Lanvin, which elegantly concealed her pregnancy bump. Cat Deeley choose old Hollywood glamour in scarlet by Andrew Gn; meanwhile both Padma Lakshmi and Ginnifer Goodwin went for tangerine shades by Monique Lhuillier.

Brit abroad Michelle Dockery led the charge of a number of belles in blue in a Louis Vuitton floor-sweeping dress in midnight blue, while Nicole Kidman wore a fitted turquoise and white mosaic design by London designer Antonio Berardi. Heidi Klum wore a floaty Alexandre Vauthier gown slashed thigh-high on both sides, while indie heroine Zooey Deschanel also opted for baby blue, in a frothy prom-style dress by Reem Acra. Jennifer Westfeldt, actress (and girlfriend of Jon Hamm) stepped out in a cobalt gown by J. Mendel. Kelly Osbourne's mauve Zac Posen dress was as glamorous and formal as anyones – apart from the fact she matched it to her hair colour.
