What we bought at Marni for H&M

Oohs and aahs rang through the office this morning as editors arrived to work with Marni for H&M bags in tow.

‘I chose the silk shirt and shorts set to tap into this season’s pyjama trend,’ said Susie Wong, Deputy Chief Sub-Editor. She arrived at the office toting three large bags of merchandise. ‘But the bags weren’t all for me!’

The fashion-filled bags yielded a blue polka-dot brocade jacket for Fashion Director Anne-Marie Curtis and a matching skirt for Acting Deputy Editor Annabel Brog. Phoebe Sing took her beaded collar straight out of the box to try it on for the crowd, and Jenny Dickinson held her new black spotted coat at arm’s length for an approving inspection.

‘I knew I wanted this coat when I looked through the images online,’ she said. ‘It’s a real day-to-evening coat that will dress up anything I wear it with.’

As for who was happiest of all with her new purchases, that would have to be ELLE Collections Editor Avril Mair. She triumphed to the tune of a coat, jacket, belt and collar.

‘It absolutely embodies the playful spirit of Marni,’ Mair said of the collection, ‘and while being a high street collaboration, doesn't diffuse either the brand's ideas or quality. I'm such a sucker for a polka dot too...’
