Wang launches Asia push
The designer plans to open retail outposts in Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok and Singapore, as well as large shop-in-shop installations in Korea, Japan and Thailand.
Wang expects to have a total of 15 stores up and running by the end of 2012. But hes leapfrogging London for now: I thought London sounds cool, Wang told WWD. But I wasnt quite excited by that. Then I was like, You know what? It should be China. Im Chinese; it makes sense.
Asian and emerging market consumers are increasingly central to luxury brands growth plans. In January, Burberry said that its quarterly sales growth of 36% in Asia offset a slowdown in growth in the US. The company also said that Brazil is becoming more important.
Thats why Moda Operandi, the e-commerce site that invites fashion fans to order designs straight from the catwalk, is planning to launch an international site. The FT reported that Moda is introducing translation services from English into Spanish and Portuguese to appeal to Brazilian shoppers.
