Burberry passes 10m Facebook fan mark

It’s a landmark figure to which most luxury brands could only aspire. In comparison, Chanel has nearly five million fans, Armani is stretching to reach two million, and fewer than half a million Facebookers have clicked their admiration of Alexander McQueen.

The only brands in the same Facebook popularity neighbourhood as Burberry are retailers with mass appeal. H&M, with its nearly nine million fans, is in third place in the fan stakes after Burberry. The top spot goes to none other than Victoria’s Secret, with more than 16m... but photos of scantily clad models and a mega-show telecast surely stack the deck against any clothed peers, right?

The selling power of Facebook clicks is still in question—after all, how many actual Hermes clients feel the need to declare their ‘like’ for the brand online?—but 10m is a considerable number, whatever the follow-on effects.
