Marc Jacobs Might Not Go To Dior

According to WWD, the intense talks with Jacobs have ground to a halt after the potential move brought complications to light for the network of brands within the LVMH fold. Jacobs made it clear that he would bring his whole design team at Louis Vuitton with him to Dior, leaving a gaping hole in a brand that reached an unprecedented level of popularity under Jacobs’ fourteen-year tenure. Furthermore, the candidate most hotly tipped to take over at Vuitton was Phoebe Philo, who is reportedly keen to remain at Celine.

Since John Galliano’s slurred but unfortunately coherent outburst in March led to his dismissal from the brand, LVMH boss Bernard Arnault has tallied up an impressive list of designers whom he is thought to have approached for the role and who have subsequently refused. Alber Elbaz, Nicholas Ghesquiere and Sarah Burton are all thought to have turned down the role, with more recent nominees to be approached including Alexander Wang, Raf Simons and Jason Wu.
