Seeing The Social Network the previous night motivated the childhood friends to start their own Internet venture. That drive plus coffee and conversation led to an online coup: The Coveteur, a website that unites covetable fashion goods, a voyeuristic peek into the industrys best wardrobes, and a generous dollop of style. We started pitching to potential subjects the next day, Kleinberg said.
The site launched in January 2011 and has accumulated an impressive roster of subjects in its first nine months. Makeup artist Gucci Westman, editor/entrepreneur Lauren Santo Domingo, lifestyle brand owner Jonathan Adler, fashion designer Jen Kao and street style blogger Garance Doré have all submitted to The Coveteur treatment.
Being Coveteured means inviting Kleinberg, Mark and photographer Jake Rosenberg over to create 3D sketches out of fashion pieces, accessories and interior elements. So Phillip Lims Pashli might perch on a pile of style books, or a beaded necklace may find itself draped over the corners of a photo frame. The captions illuminate what the pieces mean to their owner (Sequins and feathers: my two favourite food groups, reads the text for Santo Domingos Juan Carlos Obando dress.).
We edit, style and curate each vignette, Mark said, though generally the environment is left as it is.... We are very respectful of the subject and their environment.
Spending days at a time documenting Elle Deco-ready interiors and lavish fashion pieces isnt without its hazards. The founders say they find themselves leaving shoots wishing for THAT handbag/necklace/shirt on a regular basis. It happens all the time! We have gotten so much inspiration from every single one of our subjects, Mark said.
The Canadian duo is looking farther afield for that inspiration, starting wit More
