Italian athletes to wear Armani to 2012 Olympics
Armani has designed the uniforms for all Italian athletes, WWD reported. The designer will provide further details on his Olympic assignment at a press conference next week.
Although Armani hasnt designed athletic-wear, he has experience with sports stars. David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal have all starred in Emporio Armani underwear campaigns. The designer, who turned 77 yesterday, is also a part-owner of the Olimpia Milano basketball team.
Its not just the Italians bringing style to the Games. British athletes will sport Olympics gear designed by Stella McCartney.
As a British fashion designer it is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be creative director of Team GB as the hosting nation of the London 2012 Olympic Games, she said when the deal was announced last July.
