It was a star studded front row at last night's H&M show in Paris. Miranda Kerr, Jessica Alba and Jourdan Dunn had the light bulbs flashing as they waited for the high-street giants' show to start. And they were in good company too, joined by Olivia Palermo, Solange Knowles, Josephine de la Baume and Leigh Lezark for the brand's second season showing at Paris Fashion Week.
And it wasn't just the front row packing punches, the model line-up was equally as stella with Joan Smalls, Lindsey Wixon, Malaika Firth and Magdelena Frackowiak all making a catwalk appearance to a soundtrack of up-and-coming French singer Hollysiz.
And the clothes? It was a collection of contrasts, with feminine meets masculine, slinky against textured and short versus long, all made infinitely more alluring by the smiling faces and energetic high-fives as the girls walked. We want to be that girl.
Up close the clothes didn't disappoint. We caught up with head designer Ann-Sofie Johansson for a closer look at the garments and to find out what inspired the collection. And the influences aren't hard to spot. Charlotte Gainsboug gets a mention, with luxury detailing and high-quality fabrics high priorities in the making of the garments.
Citing Kate Moss in the nineties as another key influence, Johansson name checks an iridescent slip dress and a barely-there navy lace dress as key pieces, explaining that she liked the idea of girls running back and forth between clubs in slinky spaghetti-strap dresses. Very Kate Moss indeed.
Mix that up with tomboy-inspired separates - think butter-soft tan leather track pants and oversize shearling biker jackets - and avant-garde knits and you've got an impressive collection of layering pieces that you'll never believe are from the high-street.
Her favourite pieces? Johansson expects the knits and a pair of killer red knee-high boots to be the big sell-outs so get down early and make a beeline for those come September, when the collection goes on sale.
