Parties: they’re like London buses. Last night saw a slew of attendance-worthy events pop up across the city, but we began the evening in fine fashion on Bond Street. At the Dolce & Gabbana store, to be precise, where we watched a group of prominent bloggers play window dressers for the night.
Marian Kihogo, Sasha Wilkins, Bip Ling, Carrie Harwood, Lois Waller and Maddison Rothery all participated in the Dress Me Up event. Whilst they raced around the boutique in pursuit of the perfect leopard-print body or white lace blouse, we quaffed Martini cocktails and nibbled arancini (otherwise known as fried risotto balls—moreish to the max).
Dolce & Gabbana has embraced bloggers since 2009, when Stefano and Domenico invited Bryan Boy, Tommy Ton, Garance Doré and Scott Schumann to live-publish from the front row of the S/S ’10 show. The brand’s support of bloggers was one of the factors that enticed last night’s crew to participate—not that they needed much convincing.
‘One of the reasons I agreed to do this is that I was one of the bloggers Dolce & Gabbana invited to sit in the front row in 2009, but I was still anonymous and had to decline,’ said Wilkins, the Liberty London Girl blogger, in a break from rushing around the store in search of bigger, blingier accessories for her ‘Nurse Ratched on holiday in the south of France recovering from her plastic surgery’-inspired window.
‘It’s really nice that they forgave me and invited me to play dress-up! I feel like a kid in a candy shop, I’m so overwhelmed by choice.’
Later on, Pixie Geldof, Leah Weller and Keisha Buchanan turned up to admire the bloggers' window stylings. Still, all that anyone wanted to talk about was a celebrity sighting from earlier in the evening, when Arnold Schwarzenegger sauntered past the store. He must have heard about those arancini...
