The storied French fashion house has been leaderless since the rant-assisted departure of John Galliano in March. Now, inside sources suggest that LVMH head Bernard Arnault may fill the top spot at Dior by shuffling designers from elsewhere within his stable of brands.
Jacobs would move to Dior from Louis Vuitton, where he would likely be replaced by Celine designer Phoebe Philo. It is believed that Philo would continue designing for Celine—a prospect that has the minimalist designer ‘intrigued’. Jacobs, for his part, is said to be ‘excited’ about the possibility of a Dior move.
Other candidates for the Dior job, including Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquiere and Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, are understood to have stepped out of the running or rejected overtures.
Jacobs has served as Vuitton’s artistic director since 1997. Neither he nor Dior commented on the story.
