With this sponsorship, both will now have a runway show during the next London Fashion Week, which will take place in February of next year.
It’s been a great year for both designers: on top of his two celebrated runway collections (both of which were also sponsored by the Newgen programme), J.W.Anderson released a hugely successful collaboration with Topshop in September and announced an upcoming line with Versus.
Simone Rocha, who has won the sponsorship for the second time, has become a favourite of high profile celebrities like Alexa Chung. Her beautiful lace designs have also featured in ELLE cover shoots, worn by Lady Gaga and this month’s Kylie Minogue.
Presentation sponsorhips, which give an intimate space to show collections during London Fashion Week, have been won by seven designers – Christopher Raeburn, J.JS.Lee, Marques’ Almieda, Masir Mazhar, Sophia Webster, Sister by Sibling and Lucas Nascimento.
‘This season’s winners are a snapshot of what London is now,’ said the BFC’s Ambassador for Emerging Talent, Sarah Mower, whilst Caroline Rush, the BFC’s CEO, said, ‘You only have to look at the roll call of talent that has graduated through Newgen to know that these names are the future stars of British fashion.'
The Newgen programme, which is supported by Topshop, was set up ten years ago to help young designers with the often considerable costs of presenting a show during fashion week, as well as offering access to mentors and business support throughout the season. It has previously been won by London fashion Week stars such as Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Mark Katrantzou.
