When the Jigsaw design team met the William Morris gallery team, they instantly formed a mutual appreciation society. The result? A capsule collection of pieces designed by the high street store using a print conjured by the Arts and Craft movement pioneer.
Jigsaw was given free rein in the Morris archives and picked out the Brother Rabbit print, one of his lesser known designs, before setting about transforming it into a bomber jacket, tailored trousers, opera coat and more. It’s hard to believe but this is the first time that a Morris print has ever been used in a fashion collection.
In a canny bit of timing, the launch of the collection coincides with the opening of the National Portrait Gallery’s new exhibition dedicated to Morris, Anarchy & Beauty, and T-shirts and accessories designed as part of the collaboration will be available to buy in the gallery shop. As for the rest of the pieces? They’ll be dropping into Jigsaw stores today.
