We've long been big fans of Joanna Sykes. Her eponymous label has become a working wardrobe staple and we loved the pieces that she created for Freda at Matches. So we're very excited to hear about her new job - she'll be heading up the design team at Aquascutum.
The British heritage label has been the subject of some speculation since its two top designers, Michael Herz (women's) and Graeme Fidler (men's) resigned back in March. But now it seems it's back on track, with Sykes to design both the men's and women's collections as well as accessories.
Sykes says of her appointment, 'My aim is to continue to create beautiful, relevant, understated clothes and accessories with subtle detail and the unconventional sexiness for which I am known. I want to combine this with a respect for Aquascutum’s heritage, an appreciation of the ground breaking fabrics the brand has pioneered and of course a celebration of the tailored suit, outerwear and the iconic trench coat.'
We can't wait to see what she comes up with - her signature cool meets luxe vibe could be just what Aquascutum needs to transform it. We'll have to be patient though - her debut collection for the label will be unveiled in February 2011.
