John Galliano presents Fashion Fringe

Excitement has been building about this year's Fashion Fringe event ever since it was revealed that John Galliano would be leading the judging panel. As many of the attendees at last night's show were there to see the Brit designer as to see which fledgling designer would win the award.

There were three designers to choose from; Alice Palmer who wowed with stunning knitted dresses that were folded and pleated into geometric shapes; Jade Kang, who had designed elegant pastel pieces covered in draped silk; and Corrie Nielsen who created an 18th century-inspired collection with twisted seams, oversized tailored bows, and puffed Regency dresses.

The collections hit the catwalk at Covent Garden's Flower Cellars before the fashion crowd headed upstairs to sip cocktails and await the judges' decision. Colin McDowell, the founder of the initiative, introduced Galliano, saying 'This is a very, very special Fashion Fringe for me because we have dear John who is the most fabled son of London fashion.' And then a clearly nervous John Galliano took to the stage to rapturous applause, telling the assembled style setters, 'London is and remains the heart beat, the original and the romantic, and we must always nurture and support all the raw talent. I think the designers showing here today at Fashion Fringe make tomorrow look very exciting.'

So who won? The chosen designer was a tearful Corrie Nielson.
