Yesterday, had you asked us which brands and which celebrities went hand-in-hand, it’s fairly safe to say that Justin Bieber and Calvin Klein wouldn’t have made the short list. Today, it’s a different story.

And frankly, we can’t believe we didn’t see it.

Bieber is a boon for Calvin Klein for various reasons. One: everyone knows who he is. Two: everyone has an opinion on him. And three: he actually has much more in common with Marky Mark – he of the iconic black-and-shots with Kate Moss, the standard-setting campaign of 1993 – than we might all care to remember.

Marky Mark was a musician whose work walked a fine line between good and not-so-good taste (his band was called the Funky Bunch, after all.) And, like Bieber, Marky was no stranger to the inside of a police cell.

Plus, there’s the undeniable: Bieber is looking good. Underwear model-good.

Go on – tell us didn’t think he was really hot until the camera panned up to his face.

Therein lies the Bieber paradox. He looks really sexy. Alas, he is totally devoid of sex appeal.

In the nicest possible way, the reverse could be said of David Walliams, whose wife Lara Stone plays the Moss role in the ads flawlessly.
