He turns out 20 collections a year, manages a vast musical library, has an opinion on absolutely everything (some enlightening, some not so much), and yet, Karl Lagerfeld has admitted he lacks a very basic skill: he is unable to drive.

Though this will come as no surprise to many - who will find it hard to imagine Herr Lagerfeld ever putting his hands to anything as mundane as actually steering a wheel – the truth is he did once learn to drive, he was just so bad at it that he had to give it up.

The designer told French ELLE, “I haven’t driven since I was 18, and that’s a benefit to society because I ended up in a ditch, without knowing why!”
The interview came about as the magazine created a fashion shoot of Karl doing ordinary things in ordinary places, such as perusing the supermarket aisles for detergent, or sitting in traffic. In the piece, the designer also expresses amazement at the amount of junk food available to buy in an average supermarket, saying, "There's enough here to easily gain twenty kilos!"

Ordinary things for ordinary people - clearly, for Karl, are nothing short of extraordinary.
