Karl Lagerfeld is never one to shy away from pontificating on hot topics, and the latest subject of focus in the fashion world is of course Nicolas Ghesquiere’s departure from Balenciaga.

The Chanel designer has been celebrating the launch of his Little Black Jacket exhibition in Paris, where it has moved after a successful run in London. At the party, he was vocal about what the Balenciaga designer should do next.

Hint blog reports that Karl said; ‘Perhaps Nicolas wants to have his own label, which is not a bad idea’. Adding succinctly, ‘and it would not be a bad idea if somebody such as Bernard Arnault would invest in a new label because there are so many old labels [in the LVMH group which Arnault owns]’.

Comparing the situation with his own at the (103 year old) he commented; ‘We (my team and I) only think in terms of one collection after the next collection. In fashion, I am very much against projection in the far away future.’

Wise words indeed from Monsieur Lagerfeld.
