The designer filled the pages of the special issue with interviews with the likes of , Florence Welch and Azealia Banks. And, surprise of surprises from an issue featuring an illustrated self-portrait of the guest editor on the cover, Lagerfeld also used the forum to air some opinions of his own.

For instance, this ramble about Lana Del Rey versus Adele (who is perfect just as she is, thankyouverymuch) and Welch:

‘I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.’

Lagerfeld also answered questions about what he orders at Cafe de Flore, how he takes care of his ponytail, and how he feels about sex (‘I’m not very interested in that,’ he said). He ‘can’t remember’ the last time he was in love and thinks Michelle Obama is the biggest reason Barack deserves reelection.

The most revealing advice concerned Lagerfeld’s tips for staying slim: ‘I found out that clothes are much better than scales and things like this. Clothes don’t lie. If you have only clothes in one size and nothing one millimetre bigger, the minute something hurts somewhere, you know it’s time. And always keep a pair of tight jeans, something tight for control.’
