Kate Spade New York shone a ray of sunshine into a blizzard-blown day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Which is fitting, because the Kate Spade girl would never let a little snow butt in on her good time. Next autumn, she’ll be the one in the yellow blouse with the oversized organza bow. She’ll wear grey sweatshirts decorated with illustrations of sprinkled doughnuts and friendly monsters, or silk dresses covered in conversational prints of sunglasses, more doughnuts, pretzels, stilettos, New York street signs and the distinctive top of the Chrysler building. Add polka dots, peplums and plenty of leopard print, and the result is a bright, playful collection that’s totally Kate Spade - and a fitting tribute to the brand's 20th anniversary.

‘I love the energy of this collection inspired by New York,’ President and Creative Director Deborah Lloyd said. ‘It’s probably my favourite collection I’ve done since I’ve been here.’

As ever, charming accessories took centre stage. The pieces drawing the highest concentration of Instagrammers were the crystal-cuffed Tuxedo Shoes, the square-toed pumps and the new Beau bag, girly yet polished with a flat bow across the front. A canary-yellow clutch emblazoned with the word ‘TAXI’ would be a bright way to hail a cab. Straight into next autumn, please...
