The designer was speaking last night at the launch of the Selfridges Film Project, where six designers had made films based on the theme of a strong woman, to commemorate the opening of the new designer galleries. had chosen Liza Minelli as his muse, and with Hogben filming he danced the part.

"What you're seeing there on screen is just five minutes of footage taken from a very, very long day of filming. You only get to see the decent bits, but Ruth had rolls and rolls of stuff that must never see the light of day!"
In the film - which is viewed while sitting in big black beanbags overlooked, in typical Pugh style, by a giant inflated bunny - the designer wears a replica of Minelli's famous Cabaret costume and echoes her provocative dance moves whilst shrouded in smoke.
"I went to dance school from the age of about 8 to 17," said the designer, "but I'm definitely not as limber as I used to be!"
Elsewhere at the event there were films by , and . Each film was shown in its own unique viewing room - McQueen's was the 'vanity room' - a vast mirrored boardroom table for people to sit around to watch the film; ' was a library with stacks of books, old reading lamps and a smell of old wood; 's was perhaps the most appealing of all - a gigantic bed on which viewers reclined to watch the film projected onto the ceiling.

The Selfridges Film Project is now open at the Old Selfridges Hotel until March 26th.
