London Fashion Week will be taking over the capital from 20 to 24 February 2015, and we’re already looking forward to the fashion action at ELLE HQ.
Here are just a few reasons why…
1. There's a shake-up at Fashion East
Instead of its typically irreverent three-pronged catwalk show, the Lulu Kennedy-approved new guard at Fashion East is trying something new for autumn/winter 2015. Ed Marler, who showed with the collective last season, will host an intimate salon show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) gallery, flanked by static presentations by his two new compadrés, Caitlin Price (Central St Martins MA graduate; see above) and Mary Benson (University of Westminster BA).
2. Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief show is back
...And this time, it's raising money to aid the fight against Ebola.
You know the format - designer friends donate the clothes, Naomi's famous friends model them.
The Fashion For Relief show will take place at Somerset House on Thursday, 19 February, 8:00pm in an official kick-off to London Fashion Week. A limited amount of tickets will be made available to the general public this year, priced from £50. Get yours from Thursday, 29 January, 12:00pm, at Ticketmaster.
3. A sea change at Marios Schwab
Marios Schwab will be absent from the show calendar and instead, show his new collection via intimate studio appointments in a return to the label’s ‘artisan roots’.
‘The idea of building a more personal and captivating environment for my collections is really important to me,’ he says.
4. Pugh leads the Returners
After five years in Paris and one conceptual foray into multi-media in New York, Gareth Pugh will make a no-doubt triumphant, PVC-led catwalk return to LFW to mark the tenth anniversary of his own-name label.
‘London is where everything began for me. My creative family is here, our story is here,’ he notes. ‘So I'm thrilled to acknowledge such an important milestone on home ground.’
Sass & Bide and Maria Grachvogel are also making on-schedule returns.
5. Be first to spot the Next Big Thing
The British Council and the British Fashion Council are joining forces to present 130 emerging designers from 30 countries in the largest public fashion exhibition of its kind – and it will be open to the public.
6. Louise Wilson remembered
Professor Louise Wilson, OBE – the Central Saint Martins tutor who steered the careers of countless designers towards fashion stardom – will be remembered during an invitation-memorial service that’s part of the official London Fashion Week Schedule.
