Ive just got back from New York where the weather was beautiful so weve already got one up on them by giving everyone the opportunity to wear all their fall fashions, quipped Natalie Massenet at Somerset House this morning.
The British Fashion Council chairman was speaking at the official, rather rainy opening of London Fashion Week: five days of shows, presentations and parties that is already underway.
Championing it as the most inclusive LFW ever between the events being held in stores on Oxford Street and the BFC pop-up shop at Somerset House Massenet also laid out her plans to make the event even bigger and better over the coming five seasons.The BFC has appointed industry representatives to head up five different initiative; reputation, investment, business, digital and innovation and education. The latter, spearheaded by Sarah Mower and Hearsts Meribeth Parker, is the focus of s/s 2014, and the aim is to work on attracting as many of Britain's most talented to the fashion industry as possible as well as funding scholarships and promoting business education. Already has signed up to sponsor a BA degree.
The upshot? London Fashion Week is only going to get better. Starting with the next few days, which are shaping up to be seriously exciting.
