Walking into a shop and being confronted by a dozing assistant would not normally rate highly as a customer service experience. But when it's in an oversized fairytale bed, with a golden vulture sitting on one of the bed posts, and in the London flagship Louis Vuitton that changes things.
The Scandinavian artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset are the latest artists to create an instore installation piece in collaboration with Louis Vuitton. They are also responsible for the giant rocking horse sculpture currently in place on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square (sponsored by Louis Vuitton). The company has a history of collaborating with artists, including Yayoi Kusama, Tracey Emin and Grayson Perry.
Their exhibition at the New Bond Street shop includes the oversized four poster bed in which staff are invited to sleep during working hours – ‘indulging in an hour of paid slumber’ as they put it. Writers, actors and other notable individuals, including model Jade Parfitt, are due to pop in to read dozing staff a bedtime story. Which only leaves one question: how can we get a job at Louis Vuitton, and quick?
